FAQs
What issues does Dr. Elena Bassett specialize in treating?
Dr. Bassett works with adults who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or burdened by responsibilities and expectations. She specializes in anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, trauma, PTSD, compassion fatigue, unresolved grief, and challenges faced by caregivers, high achievers, and highly sensitive people. Her approach helps clients soothe their nervous systems, reconnect with their values, and live more authentically.
Do you offer therapy in person or online?
Whole Self Psychology provides telehealth therapy for adults anywhere in California. Sessions are held via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Research shows that virtual psychotherapy can be just as effective as in-person care, and many clients appreciate the convenience and accessibility of meeting from home.
What therapy approaches do you use?
Dr. Bassett integrates several evidence-based therapies, tailoring care to each client’s unique goals and strengths. Her approach draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy, self-compassion practices, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, positive psychology, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) training.
How do I know if therapy with you is a good fit?
A free 20-minute consultation call is available to anyone living in California. This call provides a low-pressure space to share your concerns, ask questions, and get a sense of Dr. Bassett’s style. If it feels like a good match, you can schedule a full session; if not, she’s happy to help direct you to other resources.
What is your therapy style?
Dr. Bassett’s style is person-centered, trauma-informed, relational, inclusive, and holistic. She emphasizes compassion, curiosity, and collaboration—bringing her authentic self to the therapy relationship. Sessions often include practices that support nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, values alignment, and overall well-being. When appropriate, creativity, humor, and joy are also part of the work.
What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
Individual therapy sessions are $250 for 50 minutes. Whole Self Psychology is an out-of-network practice and does not bill insurance directly, but a superbill can be provided for reimbursement. All clients receive a Good Faith Estimate, as required by the No Surprises Act.
What kinds of people benefit from your therapy approach?
Dr. Bassett often works with caregivers, helpers, high achievers, people-pleasers, perfectionists, loved ones of individuals with chronic mental or physical illness, and highly sensitive individuals. Anyone looking to reduce anxiety, build self-compassion, heal from past experiences, or reconnect with their authentic self can benefit from this work.
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
Your first full session focuses on understanding your goals, background, and current challenges. Together, you’ll explore what’s working, what’s not, and what you hope to experience through therapy. Dr. Bassett will help identify patterns, introduce relevant skills, and create a plan grounded in your strengths and values.
Do you offer presentations or workshops?
Yes. Dr. Bassett provides presentations, trainings, and consultations for organizations, community groups, and professionals nationwide. Topics include the Recovery Model, anti-stigma work, self-compassion, awe and curiosity, evidence-based practices, and mental health services for serious mental illness.
How quickly will you respond if I submit a contact form?
Most messages receive a response within 1–2 business days. Reaching out through the contact form does not create a therapist–client relationship, so urgent mental health concerns should be directed to 911 or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
