Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a safe, nonjudgmental, and supportive space for you to:
Identify your goals and values
Explore patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
Build on your existing strengths
Understand and heal from the effects of past experiences
Practice being present and paying attention
Recognize the impact of stressful environments and systems
Learn skills to more effectively manage difficult emotions, nurture healthy relationships, and live a fulfilling, authentic life
Cultivate self-trust and grounded confidence
I work with individuals who want to soothe their nervous systems and explore who they are beneath the roles they’ve been in, including…
Caregivers and people in helping professions who pour into others at the expense of themselves
Achievement-oriented people who work hard to succeed, but don’t feel fulfilled
Loved ones of people with chronic mental and physical illnesses, who may struggle to cope with their own grief and trauma
Highly sensitive people who often feel overwhelmed by the stress and suffering that surrounds them
People pleasers who sideline parts of their authentic selves in an effort to be liked, praised, and accepted
Perfectionists who try to avoid perceived failure, but who feel anxious and held back
Evidence-based
therapy
“Evidence-based” means that there is a substantial amount of research that has shown an intervention is effective. I am generally integrative my approach, meaning that I do not rigidly apply any one evidence-based practice, but am able to tailor interventions to each individual client. I have expertise in and draw from the following therapy approaches:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Mindfulness-based approaches
Self-Compassion
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD
Positive psychotherapy
I am also receiving training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).
My style is…
-
I emphasize each individual’s distinct goals, values, strengths, and barriers. Each person is unique and coping with complex circumstances. There is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy. I will meet you where you’re at with compassion, curiosity, and respect. While I’ll suggest tools and resources that may be helpful, you steer the ship.
-
I recognize the profound impact that traumatic and stressful experiences can have on our minds, bodies, and relationships. My practice emphasizes safety, trust, healing, and empowerment.
-
I welcome clients of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. I recognize the harmful effects of stigma and discrimination, and aim to offer a safe, respectful, affirming space where your full self is seen, heard, and honored.
-
A safe and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential. I bring my authentic self to my practice and welcome your input to guide us. I also emphasize the importance of past and present relationships in your life, and support you to build safe, healthy relationships.
-
Therapy is most helpful when it supports the whole person – exploring how the mental, emotional, physical, relational, environmental, and spiritual aspects of your life interact and shape your experiences.
-
While therapy can be hard, it can also help to cultivate joy, wonder, gratitude, and hope. When appropriate, I integrate creativity, humor, and the pursuit of awe into my practice.
Telehealth in California
I’ve been providing services to clients in California via telehealth for more than 5 years and find that people greatly appreciate the convenience of virtual care. Research confirms that psychotherapy delivered via video can be as effective as in-person therapy. I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and will review the requirements, risks and benefits of telehealth during our initial consultation. I maintain an active professional network and can easily consult with colleagues in California and across the country.
Initial Consultation
If you’re located in California and potentially interested in starting therapy, you can book a free 15-minute phone conversation that allows us to get to know each other a bit and see if we’re a good fit to work together before scheduling a first session. It’s normal to feel nervous or ambivalent; I’m happy to answer your questions and help you get the support that’s right for you.
Fees & Policies
Payment is required at the time of service. The initial session ($300; 60 minutes) includes time for assessment and discussion of goals and fit. If we agree to continue therapy, we will schedule subsequent weekly sessions ($250; 50 minutes). I do not accept insurance but will provide a superbill for you to submit to your provider for out-of-network (OON) reimbursement. I will always provide a Good Faith Estimate of what your treatment may cost.
I understand life gets in the way sometimes. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please try to give at least 48 hours’ notice. Late cancellations or missed sessions may be billed at the full session rate. If an emergency arises, please reach out and we’ll discuss accommodations.
